The official ceremony to welcome the new year 2026 and start work was held on 01.01.2026 at the departmental premises under the Director General of Pensions Mr. Chaminda Hettiarachi.
In accordance with the instructions issued by the Ministry of Public Administration, Provincial Councils and Local Government regarding the commencement of duties in the new year 2026, the duties of the new year were commenced with a short ceremony that began with the swearing of the public service pledge and the blessings of the triple jewel.
There, according to the age-old tradition, coconut oil lamps were lit and religious ceremonies were performed and all those who sacrificed their lives for the country, including the war heroes, were remembered.
Mr. Charminda Hettiarachi, Director General of Pensions, introduced a new action plan for the year 2026 to the officials to further make the services implemented by the Pension Department into a high quality service for the esteemed senior community of more than 740,000 beneficiaries of the Public Service Pension System.
The Director General of Pensions congratulated all the officers of the Pension Department for the new year and expressed his gratitude to all the staff for their contribution to the continuation of the pension payment process in the past year 2025, facing many challenges and difficulties.
